Moyes confident Manchester United will make signings

The former Everton manager has so far been unsuccessful in bringing Barcelona midfielders Thiago and Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford, but remains confident
David Moyes insists his plans for the transfer window are on track despite failing to so far make a major signing at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have had multiple bids for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas turned down, and had previously lost out to Bayern Munich in their attempts to sign his former Blaugrana team-mate Thiago.

When asked about his plans with just over a month of the transfer window left, the former Everton manager insisted he was not relying on a move for the former Arsenal playmaker.
"That is the transfer deadline. I am confident we will have players in before then," he told reporters.

"I never at any time said I knew we would get him. I just said we had made offers. They have been rejected.

"We will take stock of the situation and decide where we go from there."

United have also been linked with Marouane Fellaini and Yohan Cabaye, with a central midfielder identified as a key area to strengthen following Paul Scholes’ retirement at the end of last season.

But Moyes is adamant his current squad is strong enough, and believes United will face a challenge to retain the Premier League title in any case.

"We have a great squad. There are a few more I have not even met yet and, even without any additions, Manchester United will be tough opponents for any team this year," he commented.

"Manchester United are challenged by everybody in every game they play as far as I know and we will be this year by several teams in the Premier League.

"It looks like a strong league, with new managers and new players at certain clubs as well. Hopefully we are in for an exciting year and one people will enjoy watching."
