England U21-Scotland U21 Betting Preview: Expect a straight forward victory after a tough summer for the hosts

Despite a poor European Under-21 Championship campaign in Israel this summer, our tipster Hugh Wilson is backing the Three Lions to bounce back in style
England Under 21s host Scotland Under 21s in Sheffield this evening, with Roy Hodgson taking charge of the side after Stuart Pearce was relieved of his duties following a poor tournament in June.

The England manager will cast his eye over a strong Under 21s squad at Bramall lane as they take on rivals Scotland and look to get back to winning ways.

The Three Lions come into this match after three straight losses in Israel. Under the guidance of Stuart Pearce, England couldn’t find any form in the Championships, losing to Italy, Norway and hosts Israel, scoring only one goal in the three games.

Before the tournament though, England had qualified in style, winning seven of their eight group qualification matches. William Hill price the home side at 4/7 (1.57) to win this friendly.

Scotland narrowly failed to qualify for the Under 21s Championship this summer, finishing second in their group to Netherlands.

Billy Stark’s men racked up 13 points from eight matches, but that wasn’t enough to overthrow the Dutch. Stark’s men kicked off their qualification hopes for the Under 21s Championship in 2015 with a 3-0 win over Luxembourg. William Hill price the Scots as underdogs at 5/1 (6.00) to come out on top. The same firm price the draw at 11/4 (3.75).

A bet that stands out in this fixture is England to win to nil at a fantastic 11/8 (2.36). Despite a poor summer, Roy Hodgson has named a strong squad including the likes of Michael Keane, Ross Barkley, Tom Carroll, Raheem Sterling and Nathan Redmond, who will be all keen to impress the England manager. Before the tournament in Israel, England had won their previous five matches to nil.
