Football's governing body has announced the company
that will supply GLT for the Confederations Cup this summer and beyond,
after a nine-month bidding process.
FIFA has appointed GoalControl GmbH as the official goal-line technology provider for this summer’s Confederations Cup.The German company has signed a deal which will see it also provide the technology for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, having secured FIFA's backing ahead of three rival companies bidding to provide GLT in a process that started back in February.
This version of the technology uses 14 high-speed cameras placed at various points around the stadium, known as GoalControl 4-D, and its use will be verified once a final installation test has taken place at each of the venues where it will be used.
This summer's Confederations Cup, held in Brazil, will be just the second time that goal-line technology will be used in FIFA competition since its use was approved nine months ago.
FIFA and GoalControl will now work out a time line for the installation of the system in time for the Confederations Cup, with a media presentation soon to be scheduled.
