Tevez sentenced to 250 hours' community service

The Manchester City admitted to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, and has also had his ban extended by six months and been fined 1000 pounds

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been sentenced to 250 hours of community service after pleading guilty to both driving while disqualified and driving without insurance at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court. The Argentine has also been handed another six month disqualification from driving and a fine of £1000.

Magistrate for the case Elizabeth Depares ruled that the 29-year-old "had served a significant proportion of his disqualification" when he was stopped by police, and as such a community penalty was preferable to a custodial sentence.

Lawyer Gwyn Lewis stated for the defense that "the whole episode... has been completely alien to [Tevez] and very frightening. He has full understanding of the seriousness of this."

Lewis added that it would be "highly unlikely" that Tevez would reoffend, and recommended that the magistrate impose a sentence of "unpaid work".

Tevez entered the guilty plea in Spanish via an interpreter after being stopped by police outside of Mottram Hall Hotel and Golf Club in Cheshire on March 7 following an anonymous tip-off.

When stopped, Tevez told the officer, "I only live down the road. Two minutes."
