Ramsey: A change of approach has benefitted Arsenal

The Welshman believes that the Gunners' recent upturn in results is down to a conscious decision to work on particular aspects of their game on the training field

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has cited a new approach as the main reason behind the Gunners' recent upturn in form.

The Welshman was a part of an Arsenal side that ran out 4-1 winners over Reading on Saturday, their third win on the bounce, moving the club up to two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea. The 22-year-old says that the north London outfit have been working on certain facets of their game, such as their ability to start matches at their best.

"In the past, we've been accused of starting slowly and I think that's something we've changed, especially in the last month," Ramsey told the club's official website. "We've started off on the front foot, defended high up the pitch and won the ball back in dangerous areas. We did that plenty of times [against Reading]."

He added, "I think you could see that we played without any hesitation and with the handbrake off. We created a lot of opportunities and we defended well apart from the goal we conceded. On the whole, we're delighted with the win."

The versatile midfielder made a cameo appearance at left back on Saturday and, while he is prepared to fill in where necessary, the Welshman insists that central midfield remains his preferred position.

"That's another position to tick off! It was only a quick two minutes there, but there’s not many left that I haven't played in," Ramsey said. "I've been played in a lot of positions this season. It's difficult when the roles are different. You like to stay in your position and get that consistency."
