San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps: Wondo strikes in draw

San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Vancouver Whitecaps: Wondo strikes in draw

The Whitecaps and Earthquakes played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

Vancouver and San Jose played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Chris Wondolowsk opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Sloppy passing out of the back from Vancouver led to a turnover deep in Whitecaps territory. Alan Gordon, after having a ball played into his feet from the wing, did well to lay it off to the charging Wondolowski, who fired home from close range.

In the 62nd minute Corey Hertzog leveled the match under strange circumstances. The Whitecaps had only nine men on the field at the time, with two players off changing their cleats.

Even down two men Vancouver held the ball well and a deflected shot from Daigo Kobayashi fell kindly for Hertzog to turn and slot home.

The draw leaves the two sides within one point of each other in the West.
