Accident at sea turns Greek-Turkish tensions
An accident in the Aegean Sea has become a headache great for the Athens government and is expected to open a new cycle of statements and counter statements between it and Turkey concerning Greek sovereignty in the Aegean and claims of Ankara to have control in this sea .
A Turkish ship is stuck on the rocky shore on the northwest coast of Kos island Monday morning.
The ship is about 50 meters off the coast of the island and not in danger of drowning, but the captain refused assistance offered Greek Coast Guard.
He refused evacuation of the crew, after stating that only accepts Ankara's assistance, as regards the territory of Turkey.
To avoid provoking tension diplomats are negotiating Athens and Ankara, as 21 years ago in a similar situation, the two countries almost became involved in an armed conflict.
