Pakistan plane crashes with 48 passengers in north
A company plane "PIA" (international flight Agency of Pakistan) with 48 people on board crashed in a mountainous area in the north of the country during this Wednesday noon.
According to the communique of the "PIA" s aircraft was launched from the northern city of capital Islamabad Chitral destination, while lost contact with the control tower during the flight.
The plane had "about 40 passengers", says a statement of the company, while the Civil Aviation Authority said it was full of 48 people on board, among which 42 passengers, 5 crew and an engineer. Although there is no official confirmation from police or authority over the victims, hardly one could have survived.
On board are believed to have been the 9 women and two children. Among the passengers was one of the most famous musicians in the country, Junaid Jamshed, also known as the Leading Actor TV programs. The military has announced that it has recovered at least 21 bodies from the scene.
Laiqa Shah, a senior police official in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the plane had crashed in the area of Havelian province.
"Rescue teams are headed to the scene and arrive quickly, then we will learn more about this air tragedy," said the spokesman of the Civil Aviation Authority, Pervez George.
Televisions "Geo News" and "Dawn News", citing the authority said the plane lost contact with the control tower at around 16:30 (local time, or 12:30 to ours).
