Since the election of Donald Trump in Europe have increased uncertainty about the future cooperation with the United States, especially in the military field within NATO.
And not to be entirely dependent on Washington, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged all EU countries to increase military expenditure in the defense field.
"Do not lie to yourself. From our traditional partners, I mean the signals arrive transatlantic ties no guarantees for continuation of close cooperation in the field of security, and we must work on this myself, "she said.
Merkel did not name Donald Trump, but clearly hinted that he was referring to statements made in the campaign of President-elect, who constantly repeated that would require US assistance to a NATO member country in the contribution to the Alliance.
"I maintain my belief that Europe in general and the European Union countries in particular must take more responsibility and play a larger role in global politics for the global future," she said before a group of students at the University of Leuven in Belgium.
