Turkey, identified the gunman Istanbul
The author of the massacre of New Year's evening in Istanbul by Turkish authorities has been identified, but his name is not yet known.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Caushoglu, confirmed the news and gave no other details on the progress of the investigation.
While 12 people were arrested in the western city of Izmir. Wednesday's police operation targeting some families who had recently traveled to Izmir from Konya, a central town where the main suspect had reportedly stayed for a few weeks before the attack.
Turkish authorities suspect's photo released Tuesday, but dismissed reports that he was a 28-year-old from Kyrgyzstan. In the first public statement on the attack, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged that the jihadists will not be able to divide Turkey.
"In Turkey, lifestyles nobody is at risk. Those who claim this, let them try. It is my duty to protect the rights of everyone, "he said.
