In the US, phone calls and in-flight

Very soon the possibility to make phone calls during flight could become a reality ... at least in the US.

The government has proposed that airlines have the authority to allow passengers to make calls via wi-fi connectivity. This is a controversial proposal, and that raises some doubts. The Department of Transportation proposal leaves the choice whether to allow airlines or non-calls, but the latter shall inform passengers at the time of purchase of the ticket if possible as an option or not.

In fact technically allowed some planes making calls using wi-fi connection, but federal restrictions prohibit this kind of voice communication. Hundreds airlines in Europe, parts of Asia or Medio Oriente offer this opportunity. US not allowed to date due to interference with the control tower, but already more than a security issue is concerned with consumer protection.
